Used Trucks- From Dealer or Auction?

lineup of trucks for saleBuying Used Trucks has become more popular due to different economic demands. How do you know if you're buying a good used truck? Is it better to buy a used truck from a dealer or auction? These are some questions that you may ponder before buying a used truck.

Used Equipment Auction vs. Used Truck Dealer

The question of is it better to buy a truck from dealer or auction always comes up. Prices from a reputable used truck dealer are sometimes priced higher than an auction vehicle. Keep in mind there is a reason for this. A good used truck dealer has a good maintenance process. Finding a highly reputable dealer that thoroughly checks the integrity of the truck is very important. Because of this process, the prices from dealers can be higher than prices at an auction.

Be aware and cautious of what you are buying at auction. Those low prices are usually low for a reason. Having an experienced group of truck techs at a reputable used truck dealer can be a cheaper alternative in the long run. They are able to go through and address issues and fix if needed. The majority of trucks at auctions do not go through a maintenance check process. People are sending these trucks to an auction becasue they were a problem, or they will be a problem.

This does not mean or imply that auctions are not the place to buy. Auctions can be a good source of used equipment that can play well into your budget.

The key is to remember that the retail truck may be a little higher if your used truck dealer has a good reputation of testing the truck for any imperfections. The safety of the used truck is the most important factor, and a reputable company should have this as a number one priority.
